THE UNIVERSAL TYPE OF WRITING
Thesis project designed at ÉSAAB
“Until Gutenberg, architecture was the main type of writing, the universal type of writing.” – Victor Hugo
The structural and functional relationships between architecture and typography defined my thesis project in art history. Typography and architecture maintain, through books and in urban areas, a close relationship that involves the concepts of construction, landscape and function.
In tribute to the famous Italian artist Fortunato Depero, I designed a book with a constructed approach of the object. I tried to create architecture able to communicate a sense of elevation. I worked with bolts to make the bookbinding and chose a big format to talk about micro typography and macro typography.
